Located in Leesburg, Virginia, Morningside House of Leesburg is a senior housing community that provides assistance to veterans who are experiencing homelessness. Through public housing authorities, the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers vouchers of assistance for renting privately-owned housing to veterans.
VA case managers can connect these veterans to support services, such as medical care, mental health treatment, and substance abuse counseling, to help them with their recovery process and their ability to maintain housing in the community. Among VA's continuing care programs for the homeless, HUD-VASH enrolls the highest number and highest percentage of veterans who have been left homeless for a long time or repeatedly. The Basic Housing Allowance (BAH) rate tables for military housing areas (MHA) in the state of Virginia provide veterans with the opportunity to rent or buy a home. The liaison with the Virginia Police Department oversees the services that beneficiaries offer to veterans and provides them with direct assistance. Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness can call or visit the local VA Medical Center (VAMC) and request a homeless coordinator.
The U. Volunteer Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program provides services only in Lansing. A free monthly meeting for veterans interested in starting or improving their business is available, including a forum for exchanging ideas, networking and business promotion, and information to help a veteran start a more successful business. Eligible veterans, their spouses and dependants can be buried in a Virginia national cemetery at no cost to the family and include the location of the grave, the lining of the grave, the opening and closing of the grave, the headstone, and perpetual care as part of a national sanctuary. Free, personalized financial counseling for veterans in transition (regardless of whether they have been discharged), including help to identify financial goals, create a plan, and track the process to achieve those goals is also available. HUD's Supportive Housing for Veterans Affairs (HUD-VASH) program combines HUD rental assistance from the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program for homeless veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
There is also a website to help veterans in their transition, helping them find work using the skills they gained in military service. In addition to these specific services listed in this chapter for which only veterans are eligible, veterans may be eligible for services that are listed in all other chapters. Macomb, Oakland, Jackson, Saginaw, Lapeer and Genesee Counties provide services to families of veterans who live in Macomb and are planning to move to one of these other counties or if they live in any of these counties and are planning to move to Macomb County. The veteran will be referred to community mental health network services or to the nearest emergency room.
